Thanks For An Incredible First Year!

We are amazed that it has already been a year since Blue Door Beads opened it’s big, blue door to the Piedmont Avenue community as the neighborhood’s first bead store. We know a year isn’t a long time in the greater scheme of things, but holy cow! What a year it has been!

We are so thankful for the continued support of our amazing customers, because without you, we would not be here. We were sure from the start that running a bead store would be a fun and gratifying experience, but none of us ever expected to form such rewarding relationships with such a wide range of wonderful customers. People come to Blue Door Beads to learn new things and to create beautiful jewelry in a friendly environment, but they also come here to hang out with friends & family and to share the joy of creativity! We take great pleasure in knowing that our customers enjoy their time at Blue Door Beads, and that they can’t wait to come back to make more stuff!

Thank you to everyone who has helped Blue Door Beads become the bustling, thriving, inspiring shop that it is today. We love being a part of the Piedmont Avenue community, and we can’t wait to spend more time with our amazing customers in the years to come. 🙂

And now, a series of photos from the past year. Enjoy!

This is what the shop looked like when we first opened. It seems so bare now!

The shop then…

…and now! Customers shopping, beaders at our work table, tons more light, and local artwork on the walls!

It’s been so cool to watch the shop develop. We make changes all the time, so check back frequently!

Happy party-goers pleased with their new creations — Bird’s Nest Pendants & Earrings!

It was raining outside, so Ainsley decided to come in where it was warm…and found the perfect place to stay dry!

“I can see clearly now the rain has gone…”

We love when our customers stop by to say hello!

Beaders hard at work. Sshhh — they’re concentrating.

Family & friends stopped by to check out the shop. What a nice surprise!

Thanks so much for making our first year wonderful! Here’s to many more to come. 🙂

Art Walk’s New Name: Piedmont Ave. Stroll

As we have posted before, our community is the most important and influential factor of our success. Without our customers supporting our business and spreading the word, Blue Door Beads wouldn’t exist! We are incredibly grateful for our community’s support, and we want to do as much as we can to support other local businesses along Piedmont Avenue.

To help do this, Blue Door Beads participates in what has been known, up until this point, as the Piedmont Avenue Art Walk. After doing some research and talking to other merchants along Piedmont Avenue, we discovered that not every business was featuring local art during Art Walk. Either they didn’t have the room, it was difficult for their business to have an “artsy” angle, or they didn’t have the support & resources they needed to add a little art to their environment. Sara Mancini of Blue Door Beads and Kate Morrow of Resurrect answered the call to action, and the two Piedmont Avenue business owners have joined forces to breathe new life into Third Thursdays on the Avenue!stroll

Art Walk has now become the Piedmont Ave. Stroll, an event that has expanded to include more community activities, such as trunk shows, demonstrations, live music and more, all within the stores along Piedmont Avenue. The Stroll still happens from 6pm-9pm, and this month’s Stroll is happening Thursday, March 21st. Some of the 18 participating businesses will be featuring special deals during that time, including Cato’s Ale House, which will give you 30% off your first round of drinks with a merchant receipt from any of the participating businesses. A few other participating business include The Rare Bird, Nathan & Co., CK Gallery, and Calm, A Salon. Visit the Piedmont Ave. Stroll website for a full list of participating businesses and to find out more information about the Stroll. We’ll see you this Thursday!

We like to think there are certain places in your neighborhood you like to go where you enjoy warm feelings of familiarity and community: the local grocery store, your favorite restaurant, the park on the corner. Chances are, whenever you go, you see people you know and chat with them about recent vacations, how your families are doing, or even just about the lovely weather. The conversations you have are probably nothing major, but you enjoy connecting with these people and look forward to visiting these places because of the friendly interactions you know you will experience.

Here at Blue Door Beads, we feel that building a community within the shop is one of the most important aspects of our business. We are proud to foster an environment where folks can not only enjoy all of the sparkly beads we have to offer (although, we must admit, that’s one of the best parts!), but also enjoy an oasis in which to be creative and converse with other people who share a passion for artistic endeavors.

A customer recently told us that she had been looking high and low for a place where she could really connect with people. She thanked us for our cheery, colorful space, and also for our genuine appreciation of our customers, no matter how regularly they come in, how long they stay, or whether or not they make anything. She had been looking for a place like Blue Door Beads for a long time, and she feels that she has found her ideal creative community environment!

Our customers’ words of gratitude mean a lot to us, and it feels wonderful to know that our efforts to be a welcoming store within the Piedmont Avenue community have not gone unnoticed. If you have not yet had the chance, we highly encourage you to join us for one of our fun & fabulous events, including Wine & Pizza Topped with Beads, our monthly bead social where beaders of all levels gather on the last Friday of the month to chat, have a nosh, and bead the night away! We are also proud to participate in the monthly Piedmont Art Walk, a community event that happens every third Thursday, giving artists of all media the opportunity to display & sell their work in to a wide range of fellow community members. We feature photography, paintings, textiles, and more by amazingly talented local artists, many of whom are our awesome customers!

Both of these events are terrific ways to meet new people, visit with folks you may already know, and be a part of the Blue Door Beads community. You are always welcome, and we can’t wait for you to come hang out with us soon!
