A few words from our featured pop-up artist, jewelry designer Julie Atkinson, whose work will be on display at Blue Door Beads through from August 29th through September 17th:
While on maternity leave with my daughter, I would pass by a local bead shop on my way to the coffee shop for my daily chai latte fix. Each day I was transfixed by the colorful glass beads and gemstones in the window. During 2am feedings, I would scroll through jewelry-making websites, trying to absorb information about tools, techniques, and styles. Finally, I bought my first set of pliers, a couple of bags of beads, and haven’t stopped making jewelry since! I am a self-taught jewelry designer, learning through magazines, classes at bead shows, websites, and daily practice to refine my favorite techniques and discover color combinations.
I work primarily with Czech glass beads, gemstones, and seed beads. I love to create whimsical jewelry with striking colors and add delicate chains for texture. Each necklace, bracelet, pair of earrings, necklace or bracelet is one of a kind and lovingly crafted in my home. I strive to create pieces that make whoever wears it stop for a moment and smile as they put it on.
I live in Orinda, California with my husband and two children, and sell jewelry on Etsy as The Julie Lyn Boutique.
