Charlene is an artist and graphic designer, who has lived in the Bay Area since the early 1980’s. Her work is deeply connected to nature and her experiences in nature, Renaissance paintings, and the Abstract Expressionists.
On the north wall of Blue Door Beads, Charlene has displayed her oil paintings and pastel drawings, which are her landscapes and abstract pieces. Most of the time, Charlene works from Polaroids or iPhone photos that are quickly snapped while she is out hiking. These inherently flawed photographs are evocative of her experience of that place and time. As Charlene explains, “What is overexposed, underexposed, unfocused becomes clear on paper or canvas.”
On the south wall are iPad drawings that are based on Charlene’s nature photography, and personal portraits of real and imagined people, output as giclées.
Lorraine is the creative mind behind Wire & Stone, her line of unique handmade necklaces, bracelets and earrings made of semi-precious stones, glass, pearls and other materials.
Her jewelry pieces are constructed of stones wire-wrapped by hand, as well as glass beads, pearls, and base metal chain. Lorraine draws inspiration from the natural beauty and mystery of the stones, in addition to their healing properties. For example, red jasper is purported to enhance strength and energy, help release negative emotions, and stimulate the root chakra over time. Lorraine feels that certain stones “just feel right” when worn, and wearing them in pieces of jewelry allows the wearer to hold the stones’ properties close.
Lorraine enjoys a stillness and sense of timelessness while crafting her unique pieces for adornment, and she hopes her Wire & Stone pieces convey her feelings of joy, health, and happiness when creating them!
